My Health Record is the Australian Government’s digital health record system. From 1 July 2026, it will include diagnostic imaging reports. Below are answers to common questions patients may have.
My Health Record is an Australian Government digital record of your key health information, such as immunisations, pathology results, diagnostic imaging reports, prescription and dispensing information, hospital discharge summaries and more.
Unless you have opted out, My Health Record makes key health information available to you and to healthcare providers involved in your care.
This can support continuity of care, better informed clinical decisions and improved health outcomes.
It also helps you manage your own healthcare information in one convenient, accessible record that you can control.
If you have not opted out, you will have a My Health Record. You can cancel your My Health Record at any time by logging in through myhealthrecord.gov.au.
From 1 July 2026, radiology reports will automatically be sent to My Health Record unless you have opted out or another exception applies.
My Health Record can store your diagnostic imaging report. Images are not stored in My Health Record.
Having a My Health Record does not change the normal distribution of your diagnostic imaging results.
Your report and imaging will still be sent as usual to the clinician that requested your examination with us.
Although My Health Record may give you greater access to your health information, it is important to speak with your clinician about your results.
Sometimes a radiologist may add further or clarifying information to your report after it has been released to your referring clinician or to My Health Record.
If this happens, the updated report will be uploaded to My Health Record as an additional report.
The original report and the updated report will each have their own date in My Health Record.
Yes. If you do not want a particular examination sent to My Health Record, please tell our staff at the time of your appointment.
My Health Record is consumer controlled. You can manage your settings and preferences to control what information is added to your record.
If you tell us at registration, we can help you opt out of uploading that specific examination from North Shore Radiology & Nuclear Medicine.
We cannot provide support for managing your wider My Health Record settings or personal preferences. You can manage these through myhealthrecord.gov.au, linked to your myGov account.
