A/Prof Paul Roach MB BS (Hons) FRACP
Dr Paul Roach obtained his medical qualifications with honours from the University of Sydney and completed his residency training at Royal North Shore Hospital. He then undertook specialty training in Nuclear Medicine at Royal North Shore Hospital, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston, USA (working at such prestigious institutions as the Brigham & Women’s Hospital, the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Beth Israel Hospital and the Childrens’ Hospital, Boston). Subsequently, he has undergone training in PET imaging at St Thomas’ Hospital, London.
Since 2000, he has been the Director of Nuclear Medicine at Royal North Shore Hospital, and in 2005 was made a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Sydney. He is also the Clinical Director of Nuclear Medicine for the Northern Sydney Area Health Service.
He has a national and international reputation in various aspects of Nuclear Medicine, especially in the field of lung imaging, and he has over 70 peer-reviewed publications in various national and international journals. He played a key role in the introduction of SPECT/CT technology in Australia as well as the installation of northern Sydney’s first PET Scanner (at Royal North Shore Hospital) in 2010.
Paul is the chairman of the company that runs the Nuclear Medicine practice at North Shore Private Hospital, which opened in 1998.
Dr Elizabeth Bernard
Dr Elizabeth Bernard obtained her medical qualifications with first class honours from the University of Sydney and completed her residency at St Vincents Hospital. She then undertook specialty training in Nuclear Medicine at St Vincents and St George Hospitals and subsequently in Paediatric Nuclear at the Royal Alexandra Hospital for Children having obtained the Queen Mother, Queen Elizabeth Research Fellowship. She obtained her Diploma in Diagnostic Ultrasound during this period. She has undergone further Nuclear Medicine training at Harvard Medical School, the Peter Maccallum Cancer Centre, the University Hospital, Zurich and the Royal Marsden Hospital in London.
She worked as a specialist in Nuclear Medicine at the Westmead Childrens Hospital for 2 years before being appointed as a Staff Specialist in the Department of Nuclear Medicine at RNSH in 1997. She has been lecturer in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Sydney since that time.
She has a keen interest in medical education, both of medical students and training physicians in Nuclear Medicine. She has served on multiple university committees and has been the Chairman of the Education Committee of the Australian and New Zealand Association of Physicians in Nuclear Medicine for many years.
Elizabeth is a director of the company that runs the Nuclear Medicine practice at North Shore Private Hospital, which opened in 1998.
